What [monthly] price do you think unmetered internet access shoudl cost ...
Assuming a freephone dial-up (modem or isdn/highway), so no ongoing call charges, what do people consider an acceptable amount to pay for always available internet access ....

I can't get adsl where I live, so as a gamer, the next best thing I can get is 128k home highway. I pay Pipex £55 a month for un-contended 128k.
It still hangs up after 2 hours, which is the most annoying thing in the world.
Still 4th May, ADSL for me, Yipppeeee.
Too late cos ADSL is coming soon... but did you ever consider BT Midband? I used to be forced into using it myself (aluminium phone line!!!!), but I can't remember the full details. Something like £10 per month on top of my Home Highway rental, I think.
However, 150 hours per month, but no disconnects IIRC.
Anyway, purely academic.
Bet you're looking forward to Jedi Broadband (May the 4th be with you!)

I am indeed very excited about it in a geeky way.
Always assumed mid band was the same as 128k, never looked into it and would be gutted now if it's actually faster than 128k

I think Midband was just BT's own name for their 128Kbps service that you could bolt onto Home Highway. IP address was dynamic, but they didn't block any ports, so at least you could run your own SMTP server to send mail. Midband didn't provide a relay, which was pretty crap I only ever had problems sending to AOL accounts, but who wants to send to one of those anyway!
Drifted way OT here... sorry!
Jake
