Looking for company to provide Phone + Broadband (adsl)

A friend of mine is getting a new house and wants broadband and a phone line, doesn't want to use BT and so I thought I'd ask here as I know some of you lot do this type of thing.

I don't know about his usage but it would be a fairly decent amount and the house has a BT line (not active).

Sorry for the vague post and lack of info but thats all I know.

Help much appreciated.

Phone line and broadband
Post code is SN5 (can pm full if needed later).
Speed at least 4mb
General usage and some work usage so I'd say somewhat heavy user.

No more than £40 a month for both.

Not just moon, sounds like wants a stick thrown in to mount it on

Add another £20/month and its in the right ballpark for a phone + max connection
~£15/month phoneline, £99 install
~£50/month for 8Mb

24Mb might be available, for "real" 4Mb you're looking at £150+ for 2 lines, 2*2Mb business connections bonded ...

back to the usage "some work usage" sadly means nothing -
email ? web ? vpn ? bitchtorrent ? irc ? data backups ?

for *most* users we find they dont make maximal use of a 1Mb business 20:1 connection, and the only reason they need more is that they've picked such a contended sh!te supplier in the first place that 8Mb of BT/Virgin/Aol/etc is less than a 512Kb from a decent supplier

TalkTalk if hes on a really tight budget and doesn't mind poor (i.e. extremely budget BB), or Postoffice BB+phone which is better....

Get a BT line and Be* internet - total cost circa £35 for phone line plus up-to-24Mbs annex a broadband.

you in a cable area? may well be worth looking into virgin , at that price you will get 20mb and a decent phone package

Most people use "~" which is why you don't see the word so often
