BTOpenworld try to block Virus Traffic

Virus Notification

The Internet is experiencing problems with the MSBLAST virus/trojan affecting users computers. This can be prevented by running the patch from www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

The virus is affecting customers using Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. The virus, W32.Blaster (also known as W32.Lovsan) is spread from computer to computer and we strongly advise customers with these operating systems to be cautious of connecting to the internet unless they are running a Firewall.

Customers are advised to take the following security steps to enable you to download the security update. The security update from Microsoft will lock off the ports that the virus is attacking.

Click on start >then Run > then type Services.MSC > When that opens up you need to scroll down the list to the top remote procedures call (RPC) > Right click on this and select properties > click on the recovery tab > you will see first failure > second failure > subsequent failures these will be set to restart as default. Change these boxes to "restart the service" then click "apply" and "ok". Close services.MSC.Then press Ctrl,Alt and Delete.Select Task manager and then the processes tab.Select MSBlast and then end process. This will "kill off" the process and allow you to then connect to the internet and download the patch.

BT NetProtect offers the facility to remove the viruses - NACHI, BLASTER-D & WELCHIA and help protect your PC from any virus or breach of security in the future. Please go to www.btopenworld.com/netprotect

Please note that BTopenworld have temporarily blocked traffic on IP ports 69, 445, and 4444. In addition some BTopenworld customers may find that they are temporarily unable to ping and traceroute. These measures are being taken to assist in managing the impact of the viruses across the network.
