No idea if this is any help to you but Virgin Media have been having issues over the past few day with power.
I am a member of Virgin Media news groups and if you are a Customer I suggest joining. Its a very informative place.
I am on 10mb virgin and getting around half a meg now for 4 days.
I am currently down to 27mbit from 49.5mbit.

There is definitely something wrong with your modem/connection, I haven't rebooted my modem for several months and it has less than 1000 errors. I am in the Manchester M8 area.
