BT upload rates
hi newbie here (so apologies for any repeats/stupidity :P) like many others my BT package has just been upgraded to a 2.2 Mbs connection, i've been told that upload rates are capped at 30kbs, is this a) true? and b) true for 512+ connections?
thanks

I think you should ask that to BT. The "Asymmetric" in ADSL is what providers use to limit upstream speed. 3K upstream might be a bit too low, but wouldn't surprise me.

Can't you tell by looking at your line status in your router control panel or on the little link monitor on your system tray?

For standard BT (any ISP) ADSL in the UK uploads are limited to 256kbps (regardless of the download speed you're allocated), your ISP may limit this further, but I've not seen that happen.

dont forget that there's a difference between kilobits and kilobytes
1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits
256k(bits) upstream (as with almost all ADSL), actually equates to 32K(bytes)

a - yes
b - yes
its nothing to do with the bits-2-bytes calculation - 32KB upload speed - i.e. 256 Kb (bits vs bytes) - the upload on home connections is being limited to 30Kb/s - 1/8th of the ctual possible throughput

MaxDSL will have 448kbps on IPStream Home Max and 832kbps on IPStream Office Max, if it ever gets released, plus it's dependant on line quality (obviously).
