8mbps UKonline

I don't suppose anyone has had any experience with Easynet's UKOnline 8mbps adsl package? just wondering if it really does deliver it all for £400 a year.

scratch that - they block ports 80, 25 and 8080. Plus they only allow 500GB. pfff.
2mbps seems to be the adsl limit :'(

So no email and no web - maybe their target market is bittorrent/p2p type users only

Obviously. I can understand them stopping port 8080 as most people don't have a clue how to setup a good proxy cache like squid with secure authentication (although by default it's not 8080). And i'm sure that most people can't setup their own mail server with sasl+tls+ssl imap. But why block it for the people who can?????

Still, port 80 is the most irritating thing. I already run smtp on 10025, imap and pop3 aren't blocked.

yeah, their weirdos. Maybe i'll get a proper 2mb line from plusnet and then this 8mbps line just for torrents as you suggest :P

They don't offer static IPs with the UKOnline packages do they?

Many mail servers don't accept mail from dynamic ranges anyway, and I wouldn't suggest trying to host a website on the end of a DSL line.

Well, for me hosting a few websites at home is fine. My dual PIII just chugs away. It's very handy for webmail and site testing.

call me sceptical but.. you can only get this in a handful of enabled exchanges, also easynet ploughed headlong into the datastream market when it was the latest thing and now most people think of datastream as a second rate service. the main reason is the economics of doing it mean not enough is invested in the network capacity so the quality suffers.. i dont see why easynets latest llu service would be different

My last school had the Easynet 8mbps uncontended service for £3000 a year and that was very reliable with no quality issues. I remember stealing up to 7.5mbps for most big downloads.

But yes - the more i look into this service the less it looks worthwhile - too good to be true as usual.
