Metronet (Parbin Ltd.) taken over by PlusNet

Another decent ISP down the pan now... Metronet have been taken over by Plusnet.

The news hasn't gone down well on ADSLGuide, that's for sure.

I have plusnet and have for some time.

Never had a problem, always get full speed and low latency, no downtime either.

Personally, I use plus.net and am perfectly happy with them. I found the £15 a month account generally good but a little limited at times so I upgraded to the £22 account. You get what you pay for. But there's no shortage of competitors; for example work's Zen Internet connection is top notch (for a price).

I think a lot of the ADSLguide posters are heavy P2P users who do not like the caps. It is also the old story of people who have had a bad experience will tell everybody who will listen! I have had PlusNet at home for a couple of years now without any real issues.

I know there's certain economies of scale involved but can people tell me why it's so trendy lately to chase after businesses with £5-15 a month margin (before support costs, overheads, transit bills, etc are taken into account) customers suddenly?

I've got Plusnet at my London house, and it got *very* flakey - with frequent drop offs and periods where it just was totally unusable. Its stabalized a bit over the last few weeks but im far from impressed.

Plusnet also seem to have issues with torrents (I use torents for legitmate use I should add), either from them firewalling, or network problems (its hard to tell when you have limited net access ). And their support site didnt say anything about specifically blocking it.

Portsmouth house is currently using NTL - and I must say, I've never had an issue with NTL down here (was down for 2 hours last week, but they sent a letter out about a week beforehand stating maintainance, so I just went out for a while ).

Plusnet throttle back bittorrent and NNTP with Ellacoya e30 kit, which sucks, because they don't want to buy more BT Central capacity.

Oh and they throttle SSH too as people were tunneling P2P down that to avoid the L7 packet inspection :s

I left them before all the SUP/FUP rubbish fortunately.
