SkyDsl

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them - the 16mb offer seems very good

I dont like the idea of having to send my upstream over a telephone line to recieve the data back via satalite. Also... anybody know what the latency is like on this?

If it's operating via satellite the latency can't be lower than 240ms, at least until we work out a way to send data faster than the speed of light

It's EasyNet's DSL offerings...

Not surprising seen as Sky bought them late last year.

fusion is an unknown quantity at this point
I used skyDSL many years back now - was rubbish during certain times in the day, 56k was faster on downstream that off sat link...

Would not recommend it - stay well away from it iMHO.

It isn't Easynet's DSL offering, it's a German satellite broadband company.

My folks' exchange was one of the last in the country to be enabled for ADSL, so they've been using SkyDSL for the last couple of years.

It's really horrible, everything is proxied.

HTTP speeds are good at times but they tail off really quickly if you need to download something large. You can set different CDRs from the control panel, but anything above the default is charged per MB. My dad ended up paying £20 to download XP Service Pack 2 at a sensible rate (before discovering he had it on a magazine cover disc - doh!)

The software that's installed on your PC is terrible. It took two hours to uninstall (seriously!) and after uninstalling it all the mysterious crashes and hiccups that plagued the machine promptly stopped.

If you ask a support question you get a reply in German. Not very impressive for a pan-european service.

They've had ADSL for about 6 weeks now, they wouldn't go back to SkyDSL in a million years.
