Fastest Possible Connection to your House
I was wondering since we have all these new technologies coming out e.g ADSL MAX.
How can you get something faster now ? or is it just ADSL MAX which can limit you to 8mb . NTL can do 10mb but they dont offer a service in my area, If money wasnt an issue could you get a faster connection ?

Look for an LLU provider in your area on www.samknows.co.uk
If you've not got LLU then your options are 2mbit if you line will support it, 8mbit max or 2mbit SDSL. If you've got money to splash out, bonded DSL is available from some companies, eg aaisp.
8mbit isn't really working out well for a lot of people, there's quite a few teething troubles.
Add to that the fact that suddenly everyone can download at 4mbit or more and some busy exchanges are starting to see peak time contention issues.

Yes, basically.
In certain areas I can sell you a 1Gbps Internet connection for £2,000 per month I wonder if that would set a record for the most expensive home broadband connection?

How often if at all do you manage to actually pull 24megs through it though?
I presume this is via a LLU provider.

TBH, from where I'm sitting, right now everyone would be better off with 2meg circuits at maximum.
Since max was launched the whole things seems a disaster, more contention is coming in to play, and consumers are generally now not getting a greal deal at all IMO.
But marketing love "8", it's great to be able to sell "8meg downloads!".
My 10meg Telewest broadband has never been able to achieve 700KB/s either peak or off-peak.

Fastest you'll get for a "home" connection then will be 8mbit.
You could goto ntl:Telewest Business/Easynet/Vibus and they'd be able to do you a leased line up to 1gbit but at a cost obviously...

Throw a stick at hosting365, see if they'll sell you a leased line :P
Edit: don't go with ntl:elewest, they're fine until something goes titsup.com, then they're useless.
Thanks,
Joe

Sure you're not using a decrepit old SB3100 with the 10mbps half duplex lan connector? I couldn't get much more than 6-700kB either while I waited for them to bring me a newer one.

Small technical correction, you'll never get 8Mbit with ADSLv1 - You've got ATM overheads to take in to account, which gives you around 7.2-7.3Mbit/s

I work for the business sector support and we're very good if I dont say so myself!
4 hour fix SLA on leased lines etc are regularly met.
Consumer side on the other hand...
