I was quoted by WorldPay quite reasonably but they wanted a £5000 retainer :/ because we are in the hosting business....what do you suggest? Most clients pay via standing order so we would only need a few trnsactions per month. Also I have a colleague with a new idea looking into merchant status but with no real trading history...you know the score

iClaudius, IMHO, it is better to check reviews of payment processors and shortlist few of them like worldpay, chronopay,moneybookers, nochex, authorize ect and ask quote and check who offer you the best rate. I would suggest you visit this site for the list of payment processor especially in UK; electronic-payments.co.uk/product_data.jsp

Thanks marketeer - useful site that. I didn't realise that you could use Nochex without signing up for an account like PayPal. Most of our clients pay via standing order in advance and we'd rather keep this system but occasionally people want to pay via credit card so this is something I am looking into. Thanks for tip.
