best upload speed

Im currently looking for an ISP with a high upload speed. I've looked at SDSL not only is it expensive i can only get speeds up to 500kb in my arena, whereas looking at BeThere which is about 200 cheaper a month i can get speeds of almost 1Mb

This is all good, but i was looking for something more in the 2Mb range for upload speed. Mainly because its for two offices and we want to run 5 terminal service clients accross a link between the two. I dont understand why there isnt a balanced option so instead of for example 8mb download you could have 4mb upload and 4mb download.

2 Reasons

a) The Technology isnt there for it on aDSL
b) Loss of Leased line revenue

You have 2 options available to you

a) Leased Line
b) Bonded DSL connections

If there was a simple AND cheap way of doing it, everyone would've already!

Depending on what your doing a 2mb SDSL link would serve 5 TS clients easily. SDSL may be more expensive but you've got better contention (usually 10:1) and better SLA for what its worth with BT.

Agree with Jon (Jon's are always right). Depends what sort of app the TS clients are using, but we've had 8 x TS client sessions running across a 128K private circuit with no problems at all. Dip your toes in with a decent ADSL connection and see how it goes before spending the megabucks.

That would be all well and good but we can only get 512kb SDSL its too far from the exchange for any higher, so bizarrely where the office located you can actually get faster upload speeds on ADSL than with SDSL. No wonder sign up of SDSL has apparently been slow .

I never tried running more than 1 terminal client over broadband i was under the impression it required alot of bandwidth , the users will only be running office programs (word excel etc) and some custom software that runs though internet explorer that wouldnt be a problem?

Doh. You could look at bonded ADSL but your probably going to be paying a decent amount per month.

On a 20:1 ADSL you "could" (losely used) get 5 people running on TS. If your apps have alot of images then your going to be a bit stuffed.

The SDSL is going to be 1:1, the aDSL2 probably 100:1 so you *might* get speeds of 1Mb, but you're only guaranteed 1/100th of that. With the SDSL its allways yours.

LES2 (or whatever its called now)
LeasedLine
4*Bonded SDSL

Or better yet - move the server to a central location connected to the internet - like a datacentre

Think we will try Be for now, the server in data centre idea is interesting though, never occurred to me

Bonded SDSL works well, we provide several bonded SDSL connections, but you do pay handsomely for it, relatively speaking.

Currently using Goscomb Technologies ADSL Max Premium. 20:1 contention and I can push around 700Kbps upstream without issues.

Exchange

Are both sites connected to the same local exchange by any chance?
