    Gamer Points

Can anyone explain this to me in simplistic terms what they are actually used for ?

Do you save them up and use them to download new games when you reach a certain amount, do they actually have a use or are they basically Microsofts way of saying your a geek playing too many games collecting points

They have no purpose AFAIK. Just used to show how much of an Xbox geek you are.

bit of a shame, I think I've seen them being used to download content in videos. Not 100% sure.

I'm definately looking at getting a PS3 and XBOX. I'm so getting back into my geeky gamer mode and seeing games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Resi Evil and AVP makes me want to play them bad

I'm still an old fart with a Megadrive, but I love my old games too. Those new ones look uber cool.

I think you can buy Microsoft Points or something which let you buy stuff.

It's a complete scam. The points never add up and you can't withdraw those points once you've bought em. I've got a bunch of em just sitting there but my xbox is broken... now if they weren't such scamming cunts then I'd have just paid 2.99 or whatever it is for the initial purchase and everyone would be happy. No instead they've taken 8 or something and the rest I can't use.

Gamer points are a score you earn by completing certain challenges in games (achievements) and they go to a grand total linked to your XBOX Live ID. They can be a measure of how geeky you are. I have approx 3,100 points and some of my friends have 50,000+ and I've seen ones with 160,000+.

Microsoft Points are the inbulit currency within the Xbox system to make things the same "price" all over the world (of course they aren't but thats another rant). You purchase microsoft points in your local currency and can then use them to but things from the XBox marketplace e.g. upgrade for games, games on demand, clothes for your avatar

    Thanks,

I was specifically referring to "gamer points" where you get achievments in game.

Suppose it's not bad if your thought of as geeky in our world

    To a point

When you get lots it becomes obvious how much time one person has to of invesited. Most games top out at 1,000 gamer points and so if you think someone has 150,000 then they have played every single minutes of 150+ games. Say 20-25 hours per game (being conservative some can easily take 40-50 hours) thats 312 days so lets say its a solid year of your life playing games

There's not many games I like the look of but the XBOX has a nice selection and I'm dying to play ones like Darksiders, the graphics look great.

Tell me about it. The only good thing they did was make the xbox 1 retro easy to hack into a media centre lol

I probably will, as they still seem cool in some way and it's a DIY media centre

I just have a hunger to play games a lot again
