major ipod/itunes problem!!!!!!

Oks ppl, i go to update my ipod and what happens!?? It wipes all my songs from the ipod, i then dc and reconnect in the hope it will put the songs back onto it. To no avail, i now get the message that reads 'cannot read files on lollys ipod please run ipod update to restore to factory settings' Which i feel gutted about i then go to download the itunes 7.0 to sort this out and i get 'not a valid win32 application' I then make sure windows is up to date of which it is. So i use the restore you get when you first buy and install ipod. Ipod is restored but all my songs are still in itunes. My ipod is now not being recognised and when it is there is nothing on it, i cant go into file menu and click 'update ipod' even when ipod is connected. I thought i was getting somewhere when i dragged the original library into IPOD i now have some 200 songs but it wont go any further. Im at a complete loose end im cracking up i want my ipod back!!!!

I've done that before, was annoying, fortunately I found a backup from a month or 2 before.

I never use the auto-update thing, cos if you have no songs in the playlist, and it updates via that playlsit, then your ipod will end up with no songs on it as well.
