Severed cable disrupts web access

BBC NEWS | Technology | Severed cable disrupts web access

Anybody feeling any affects yet? We've had a software company based in China on the phone grumbling so far...

Its a global disaster ...

With 2/3rds of internet traffic to/from India having a few additional hops, many major UK and US companies have had to resort to drastic measures - including the introduction of English speaking regional based call centres !

It's worth reading those comments at the bottom, some are quite amusing.

LOL... you'd be surprised, a lot of call centres have actually been moved to South Africa due to a more native English language and less of a time zone difference.

Bit of stats on the situation: Three undersea cables cut: traffic greatly disturbed between Europe and Asia/Near East zone

I particularly like...

I teach English at a high school in Sisaket. The last few days our connections have been very, very slow. Yesterday, when I was trying to teach some students how to use Limewire to download movies and songs, the connection seemed to be nearly non-existent.
Ahhh, the benefits of an edukayshun.
