Basic UK Wirelss Question from an American

My daughter is in England for school. She just moved to a new house that has wireless but only broadcasting at 11mps. She has 801.11 54mps in her laptop. I wanted to buy the house a new router that would support the higher transfer but the young man in charge of it at the house said it would not make a difference since the house only has 2mps internet connection. I think he is wrong but maybe not. Can someone help me with this question. Thanks, I appreciate any response.

Mike

Thats probably the case, up until more recently the "normal" maximum for ADSL/Cable was 2Mbit.

Hi,

Yea, at the moment, ADSL will only go to 2mb/sec. This WILL change when ADSL2+ is released, meaning the limit will be 24mbit.

On the other hand, if they do have cable installed, Blueyonder and NTL are upgrading all of their customers who're on 4mb/sec to 10mb... 2mbit -> 4mb, and 1mb -> 2mb (i think).

At the end of the day, 11mb wireless will be fine for the UK, our national service provisions suck unless you pay a stupid amount of money

I hope this helps
