Note the OP's wording, "shuttle-type" system. Not all SFFs are alike! (unless you leave plenty of margin for error in your shelving).

I recognise this shuttle case, so I know the rought size - but also if you look in the photo its easy to judge the approx height from the PCI blanks shown at the back. The width (again taken from the piccy) is just slightly wider than a CD-ROM drive (you can see the bay) and the depth isn't really too much of an issue as we can't put machines behind each other anyway.

We ran a few shuttle systems with the same cooling arrangement last year for around 9 months and with the rear fan set to full-speed in the BIOS as apposed to the adaptive speed they default to all 3 boxes ran pretty cool indeed. Depends how hot your racks are I suppose.

They don't go into the PSU as far as I remember, they go into the rear case-fan.. the PSU had its own little fan seperatly. I may be wrong with this particular one - the only time i've ever seen these is one is Colo'd with us in SOV.

The Shuttle XPS machines we used where arranged as descrived above.

I find Shuttles WILL get hot with its default cooling, we chuck PCI fans into ours and they seem to do the trick.

We also recommend to our customers that do send in Shuttles that they put a PCI fan (or something similar) in.
