    Red face Fundamental SEO

    Dear Peter

I've 2 years SEO experience with managing more than 30 client sites. Hereby to share some fundamental SEO info that might be useful to you

    SEO starts (On-page optimization):
    1. Understand your website, perform keyword research for how visitors find your product by using Google Keywords Planner (FREE!), or run a small Google Adwords campaign and detect what keywords that bring visitors to your site (only interested visitor will click your ads), and use that keywords to develop a superb content for your website. Remember, keywords must be included in Title tag, meta description, H1 tag, or even in URL. You can start with top 5 keywords you would want to rank in first page. Keep track for that 5 keywords position in result page. It usually takes 6 to 9 months time to rank in first page, after the keywords are stable on top, then you can continue for next keywords.

    2. Make sure your website is SEO friendly. Friendly means Google bot crawl-able site, including rich content text, no heavy Flash, write Alt text for all images. Create specific content for specific topic/product, do not mixed up all topics/product into one page. This is because to create high relevancy content to your site and Google like it. Remember, your URL should be static URL NOT dynamic URL.

Dynamic URL will show in this way (including those meaningless symbol): yourdomain.com/children@$%books_12%&
Static URL is a friendly URL: yourdomain.com/children_books

    3. Remember set up Google Webmaster Tools (FREE!) to check robots.txt, website issues notification, who links to your site, your most linked pages.

    4. Remember to set up Google Analytics (FREE!), to track visitors & keywords they used to search you.

    Continuous SEO (Off-page optimization):
    1. This is about create link to your website. You can search for ANY sites to build link, BUT make sure the site is QUALITY and Related to your website one. The more quality links and quality sites that link to your website with your keywords, your site will eventually push up to higher rank. Have you heard about Google Page Rank (PR)? It's a measure to judge how quality of a site. Install that plugin in Chrome, and check for those blogs, directories, news sites & etc which are having PR3, 4, 5, go for that, contact their webmaster to press some interesting content and link to your site. Of course you have to give something good in return for them.

    2. This link building works is an endless process in order to support your site. Continuously search for good sites that are willing to link to your site. Don't go for low quality site just to get a link, it's no help and time wasting.

Development of SEO (Both on-page and off-page optimization)
    3. Continuously update your website content, make sure it's up to date (Google like it so much), and maintain high relevancy. Conduct Link assessment, make sure no any bad sites that link to your site (this is call spamming your site, you can check this from Google Webmaster Tools).

Okay! I believe this can help you, and I recommend you to read SEOmoz for beginner, that's interesting!

ALL THE BEST! HAVE FUN WITH SEO!

    Page title element

The page title element appears at the top of your browser window and is effectively the name of the page.

The most important keyword must be in the page title element and placed as close to the start as grammatically possible (this is called front loading and is important in all parts of your web page).

    Keyword metadata

List up to 10 keywords and search phrases that users are likely to use when searching for information contained on your web page. These are the same keywords you will use for the rest of the page.

Try and use generic terms and ideas for your keywords. Branded or unusual phrasings are less likely to be searched for unless they are widely used terms.

    Description metadata

The description should describe the contents of the page in approximately 140-160 characters. The most important keywords should be placed as close to the start as grammatically possible.

This description usually appears on the search engine results page to help searchers decide if that is the page they are after. Although the page description does not directly contribute to the page rank in Google, it is vital in generating click-through traffic from search engine results.

    Heading 1 (H1)

The H1 is the first heading on a web page The H1 must clearly describe the content of the web page should be between 60 and 70 characters in length.

    Headings (H2, H3, etc)

Use headings sensibly on your page, focusing on the reader, and including keywords in the headings where appropriate. Search engines look for heading tags and the keywords inside them.

If you follow good web writing practices and front load your headings to make the page easy to scan by humans and search engines alike, Google will reward your page with a higher ranking.

Always use the heading styles provided and in the correct order—regardless of which heading is your favourite (e.g. H2 before H3, H3 before H4 etc).

    URLs

Search engines also take into account the keywords placed in the URL of the page. URLs that have proper words in them are viewed more favourably than those with numeral IDs, etc (by humans and by search engines).

Use a hyphen (-) to separate words in a URL instead of an underscore (_) or space (%20).

    Links

Link text is the clickable text (hyperlinks) on your web page that leads to internal or external web pages. The more specific and relevant you make your link text (especially if it contains keywords), the more helpful it will be to your human readers and the search engine crawlers.

Never use “click here” as link text; it doesn’t tell anyone where the link leads to.

    Body

You want to aim to have the keyword make up approximately 2% of your web page content. That works out to about 8 keyword mentions per 400 words. That is, 400 good words conveying relevant information, without padding, with plenty of headings, and the most important information at the top of the page.

Update your content frequently. It aids your search engine ranking. Search engines are like people, they want fresh, up-to-date, and clear content.

    Images

All images must have alt-text. This is the text that appears when the user has images turned off or is using a screen reader. The name that you give the image when you load it into the CMS will become the alt-text.

It is important that you describe the image accurately, and with the relevant keywords.

SEO helpssmall business owners create fast, robust, and user-friendly websitesthat rank higher in search engines, which in turn helps bring morequalified potential customers to their sites and eventually increasesconversion rates. SEO also helps build brandawareness for your business as search engine users are more likely totrust a site that are on first page of search engine results pages(SERPs) than brands who are not. If you’re a small business owner, you should utilise SEO to build a strong webpresence and bypass your competitions to gain new customers for yourbusiness and take it to the next level.
Hereare top 5 KEY benefits of SEO for small businesses:1.User-Friendly WebsitesSEOwill help small business owners create a faster, smoother, anduser-friendlier website. Although most people still hang on to theold definition of SEO, thinking that it is only about optimising forthe search engines, however, today SEO is also about improving userexperience too.Well-structured,clean, and uncluttered websites compels a casual visitor to staylonger, thereby decreasing bounce rate and increasing page views.Similarly, highly relevant content (sales pages and blog articles)keeps you readers happy as they are more likely to solves answertheir questions, solve their pressing issues and helps them findexactly what they’re looking for on your site.On-pageSEO, if done properly, makes your users happy, which makes searchengines happy too as they love to serve high quality information totheir users.
2.Bring in MORE CustomersLet’sface it, one of the main reasons for having a website is to stand outfrom your competition and increase your customer base. Otherwise, whyinvest 1,000s of pounds (£) on marketing, right? Businesses thathave a SEO optimised website bring MORE customers and grow as twiceas fast than businesses who do not have one.SEOis probably the most efficient and affordable marketing strategy thatexists today. Moreover, it will only bring in customers who areactively seeking to find your product or service!Ifyou’re willing to spend few hours of time, energy, and small amountof money, SEO will help brings “targeted” traffic to yourwebsite, and eventually more customers to your business than anyother marketing tactics you’ll ever use.
3.Better Conversion RatesSEO-optimisedwebsites loads faster, are easy to read and surf, and will displayproperly in almost all types of devices, including mobile andtablets. Websites that are easy to read and navigate are more likelyto grab and hold attention from your readers or visitors – i.e.they’re more likely to become your loyal customers, subscribers, and returning visitors.
4.Build Brand AwarenessOneof the benefits of getting higher rankings on the SERPs is buildingbrand awareness. When your sites appear on the first page of majorsearch engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing, your potentialcustomers are more likely to trust your brand when they search for aparticular term rather than other brands that don’t have a strongweb presence.Thatis why small businesses that want to build better brand awareness(either locally or expanding nationally) must invest in SEO and startgaining top rankings for the KEY terms related with their business. We’re not in the 90s anymore; search engines now play a significantrole in making or breaking your brand.
5.Bypass CompetitionLet’stake an example of two businesses that are in the same industry, selling similar products, at similar prices. One of them has anoptimised website while the other has a non-optimised website.Considering everything is else iseqhttps://www.duplichecker.com/back-link-checker.phpual, whichcompany do you think will attract more customers to their websitefrom local searches? Which company will likely grow faster and becomemore successful? Search engines and SEO are very powerful. If yourcompetitors are doing SEO marketing, simply you must ask yourself whyyou haven’t invested in such a strategy yet too.
