Thread: Dell R300

    Dell R300

Tantalising specs and pictures on the Dell site for about a week now but no prices.

Any idea how much these are going to cost?

I've got a feeling it'll retail around the 600 mark, maybe with a launch promo. That might see the r200's drop in a price a little as they've been a bit random with the quotes while shifting the last of the 860s.

    0.25a looks interesting.

What are these meant to be replacements for?

oooo, would you look at that R200 dropped to £ 289 today. R300 is just a better R200, don't see it replacing anything in the line-up specifically, just brings something between the R200 and PE1950. I wouldn't be surprised if they do something/lose to the SC1425 in coming months, present pricing would suggest they're trying to get rid (or they're not selling well at all).

yeah i think the r300 is a new mid-point between the r200 and the 1950. To me there doesn't seem to be any point as we'd use the 1950 if we wanted more RAM in a 1U box. You can still only get 2 x 3.5" drive in the the r300, whereas you can get 4x2.5" in the 1950.

Interesting that the web price for the r200 has dropped, wonder how that will translate to what we pay...

Even though the base R200 has dropped in price they've made a few changes:

Stopped the 30% savings on selected upgrades.
Introduced the 80Gb for the base model
Forced 2x disks instead of the option for one only

And I notice that the RAM upgrades are still exorobitantly high.

    Upgrade to 2GB DDR2, 800MHz, 2x1GB Dual Ranked DIMMs for £140.

    Crucial compatible parts:

    £39.99

I've been quoted £599+VAT for 1Gb, 250Gb. No doubt there are many hosts here who can get it *much* cheaper!

Our dell guy is obviously shite. He has just told me he cannot beat the dell.co.uk price currently shown for the r200's.

I wanted 20 and assumed he could do *something* off the price I can order from the site..... (£318 with 2gb ram)

Looks like that price is a special offer until 08.04.2008.

You're asking them to discount a loss leader though Depending on how much the RAM is over inflated they will match a like-for-like upgrade quote (from crucial say). Best I've managed to get on 10+ very cheap r200's is free shipping (when they were ~290 for 10+).

I always said Dell RAM upgrades were a rip off but this takes the biscuit.
