ipower as host?

I live in N.Ireland and currently have my site hosted by a British company but i am thinking of transferring to ipower.com in America. Are there any drawbacks to moving a site to an american company? thanks

Depending on the provider the connectivity may or may not be very good. In which case you need to decided if that's acceptable for your visitors. Generally it is advised that you host in the same country as your target market.

Another thing to take into account are search engine listing. If you have spent alot of time/money on building on that it might negatively impact your listings to be hosted in another country.

First question - what are your reasons for transferring?

Drawback of moving to "any" American provider is you might lose your "UK" status in search engines.

iPower don't have a good history from a security point of view as i remember and took months to clean up after being hacked.

thanks for replys

Why would my search listings be effected by moving to another country?

I want to move because a designer set up the host nearly a year ago and i'm being charged £120/yr for i think 250mb storage, which i think is expensive. I now have complete control over my domain (after alot of hassle!) and now i want control over which host i use. Also ipower says it gives 300gb storage and 3000gb bandwidth for $6/month.

Any UK hosts you would recommend? thanks

It depends if people click the "pages from the UK" bit in Google (and other search engines too I guess), then being hosted in the UK will make a difference and if you stick a post in the request section I'm sure you will get some competitive prices for UK hosting.

You could always just go for a cheaper UK host whom, whilst not providing unsustainable telephone number levels of disk space, will still be able to provide you with far far more than you'll ever need.

Quality over quantity would sum that up.

Vesco, if you worked in the industry and knew how much things cost, you'd know that was suicidal pricing without a *huge* level of overselling.

First tip is not to go with the providers offering the most for least, but those who offer what you require at a sustainable price.
