The name scares me. Free SSL?

There has to be a catch, but I dont know what it might be though
When I pressed their order button it just took me to geotrust.
yes there is a 'catch'.
the freessl cert is only compatible with about 75% of browsers... hence not very good for real businesses. Also its only free for one year... after that, you have to pay $119/year. Freessl is owned and operated by Geotrust.
The last time i applied for one, their application form was not working... it kept giving me a 500 error, not sure if its working now or not.
You can try www.equifaxsecure.com at about $99 , or if you use OpenSRS you can buy them for $99
You said 75% of browsers. What versions of IE and Netscape does it support and not support.
IE 5 +
they claim on their site that it supports 70% ... but that has been there since a very long time ago, so common sense would say that most ppl have upgraded their browsers, and therefore it should support at least 75-80% of users today.
Their support is crap and they dont reply to anything with regard to freessl, (not sure if they reply to questions about their paid one either!). I really wouldnt recommend them... but then again, it is a free lunch.. so what more can you expect?
What about Netscape 4+
not sure, but i dont think so.
I could swear I already posted this, anyway, I found out:
IE 5.01+
Netscape 4.51+
