It's a step in the right direction, they really need to include businesses.

I suspect hotmail played a part in that too ... they're continually improving anti-spam measures.

Personally i've not seen any drop in spam since this. Probably more, in fact.

I saw no reduction in spam on my server.. I recently introduced the use of RBL's (4 of them in fact) and I am now rejecting over 1500 spam messages a week at the SMTP server so they are not even getting into the system..

I was getting about 150 massages to my mailbox ( after going through spamassasssin) per day I now get about 15 so RBL's made a huge difference..

    later..

Well I receive a lot of spam on my business e-mail accounts. Beleive me I know how to stop spammers... but noboby has enough time to stop them at all. So I hope the rules agains SPAM are going to very harsh no only in US, UK and EU but also Worldwide.

Regardless of law, it's not going to stop the spammers. They're devious little buggers and will continue to use all means necessary to send their crud. IMHO, the only way the level spam is going to be affected is if we start to change the fundamental protocols that make up the mail system.

    Regards,

It is still a good move, best way to hinder the spammers would be for all the sysadmins to keep there servers up2date with the latest security patches.....

Or taking Rob's idea you could charge per email sent ... That would certainally stop a lot of them if they got a massive bill at the end of it!

Lets face it most spam arrives from open relays and infected machines in the far east, where, it seems, nobody cares a jot about network security or even 'doing the right thing'.

No amount of UK legislation is likely to stop junk coming from the far east about companies not based in the UK.

I'm about read[y] to throttle the owners of ready made logos, for example. Nearly all the spam I get these days seems to be from their spam peddling affliate scheme users. :|

Hello, Companies Act 2006. Because looking information up at Companies House is very very difficult indeed (especially as they think the Internet closes at night), and this post could possibly be construed as a business communication, I am legally required to furnish you with the following information: Low Cost Host Ltd - Reg# 5172812, VAT# GB 842 9750 02 Correspondence address PO Box 11, Brighouse, W Yorks, HD6 1LQ Registered address c/o Allan P Naylor Accountant, 8 King Cross St, Halifax, W Yorks, HX1 2SH Inside leg measurement 31in (or 78.74cm) Favourite colour Blue Attitude towards ridiculous legislation Incredulous

I would suggest that the *vast* majority of the spam through our servers is from infected *US* based DSL connected machines.

In particular Comcast DSL users seem to be a right bunch of clueless induhviduals
