Thread: Moving web host/domain name help

    Moving web host/domain name help

    {not sure if this belongs here or not}

    I am with europahosting and they seem to have either gone under or something. All 3 email addresses for them are being returned as unknown.

    Here are my questions;

    1. My domain name is registered to me, through europahosting. It has my info in WhoIs for the domain. How do I transfer my domain to another web host?

    2. Much of the info for me in WhoIs is out dated as I moved a couple of months ago. How do I update that?

    3. Once I find a web host to move to, what do I need to do; ie moving my domain name and site? Is moving my domain name over a straight forward thing or would it be easier to get a new one {not preferred}?

    4. My domain name registration expires in August. How do I re-register it myself since I'm changing web hosts?

    5. I have several email accounts linked to my current web site using my domain name; ie @domain.com. Are they lost forever or will they transfer to my new web host since they are based on my domain name?

    Well, that is all I can think of right now. I'm sure I will have more questions later.

    Thanks in advance

    Is it a UK (.co.uk) or TLD (.com,.net,.org etc)?
    The processes for moving different types of domain are slightly different.

    It's a .com domain.

    Do you have access to a control panel where you can change details of the domain, or do europa hold access to the admin panel for it? If europa hold access for the admin panel, what are you listed as in the WhoIs? The registrant or administrative contact?

    I'm listed as Registrant, Admin, Tech and Billing contacts.

    I did have access to the cPanel for the site, but 2 weeks ago I was locked out. The cPanel has been refusing my password since then. My contract with europahosting expires 6 Spt 05.

    Also, the main email email address no longer works, but all the subs do.

    Does the email listed on the administrative contact still work?

    Yes, it's my MSN address.

    Not sure if this helps, but the Registrar is eNom.

    What i'd suggest doing then is opening an account with a cheap third party registrar, such as godaddy or namecheap, and put in a request to transfer the domain in providing the domain is unlocked.

    The email address on the administrative contact should receive a confirmation email and usually some more instructions to finish the process.

    When the domain is then firmly in your control at the third party registrar, just open up some new hosting with another provider, and change the nameservers on the domain to the details given to you by your new provider.

    Status: Locked

    Not sure what that means, but that is near the bottom of the page.

    Ah. This becomes a completly different kettle of fish then. Domains cannot move unless they are in an unlocked status. If a transfer to another registrar or hosting company is requested for a locked domain name the transfer request will automatically fail, see.

    This locked status needs to be removed at the registrar before a transfer can take place to another registrar. But you say you can't get in touch with europa?

    No, all 3 email addresses {Mail, Sales and Support} are returned as unkown.

    Eeesh - this doesn't look too good then. I don't know if there is a way you can acquire TLD's by proof of identity; i'll have a look into it.

    Fingers crossed, it seems like the domain problem might be sorted out. I just got 2 emails, 1 from elenlace {seller} and 1 from europahosting {reseller}.

    Could someone answer #3 and 5?
