UK WebHost Recommendations Needed.
Hey there,
Decided to post as I am new to this forum, and have some questions:
I am presently with a host I am unhappy with.. So I am after some recommendations.
currently have: 2000 Mbs space, Unlimited POP3/Imap Email, 100GB data transfer, fantastico, CPanel (contol panel), Spam/Virus scanning.
prob standard stuff for most hosts, but I am confused with so many providers, so I thought I'd ask.
Requirements are mainly simple:
Prefer to use CPanel-unless someone recommends sommat else, IMAP email - I just honestly prefer it's accessability, and a decent amount of space to play with. Not sure if what is have a over sized. LOL. UK Support and Servers are also needed.
Issues with present host, is the support or general lack of it and the fact they wanted £11.74 to renew my domain, as they charge that EACH year...
I presently pay monthly and it works out as £4.69 per month. If I can be offered a better support service and a cheaper domain renewal, not yearly, i will be interested. Sorry I didn't post the before.
will be grateful of ANY recommendations.
Thanks.

Hi,
Just so you're clear, domains do need to be renewed each year (.uk domains every 2 years).
You can renew them for up to 10 years (again only 2 for .uk) so this would be the norm on most accounts.

Hi there... I have a .co.uk Domain, and my previous host never asked me to renew it at the end of the 1st year, also if what u say is the case, why does WHOIS show it as not up for renewal for another year?
Cheers anyway.

To be honest, I think you've got a cracker of a deal!
A domain, that level of bandwidth, diskspace, staff to support you, etc for < £5/month is insainly cheap already.

I forgot to say in original post , I don't mind paying more, cost ( to a point) was not an issue, excluding £11.74 per year for a domain name... which I think is ott.
Cheers,

how much do u charge for .co.uk? is it yearly or bi-yearly?
I know someone who will charge me £7 inc VAT for 2 years, but I wanted to see other opinions....

If you're looking to move to save £4 over 2 years, then good luck to you.
Moving due to poor service is a valid reason, moving to save half a pence a day just sounds like too much hard work.
Good luck with whomever you choose.

.co.uk renewals are always in periods of two years, so their charge should every 2 years otherwise every other year they're charging you for nothing....then again, I'll bet it's either an error their end or some clever T&Cs to make up for the absurdly cheap hosting cost

to Jamie and to Thermal,
I am moving due to lack of service and poor T's and C's, as have not included that charge in them... I was after some recommendations, but so far, none have been forth comming... :-(

Hi,
given most people in this thread are Hosts themselves, the rules forbid the 'advertisement of your own services' outside of the Requests for products or services section.
If you post in there, I'm sure you'll get some people recommending themselves

Two options..
a) the old sk00l way
:(
:)
;)
b) Advanced mode (or quote) and you'll see a bunch of smilies on the right of the box you type in, just click one you like and it will insert the code for it.
Enjoy and good luck finding some goodhosting, there are alot of dogs out there! :emote_dro

A lot of ccTLDs and psuedo-TLDS are in 2 year cycles. And a lot of us annualise out the pricing to make things simpler for vat reporting and the client.

Does anyone know of a forum where you are more likely to find people who are using hosting services, or people like web designers using reseller accounts or dedicated servers, instead of the hosts themselves which is, as you say, what you find in this forum? It might be a bit easier to find recommendations on companies. I am not sure if such a forum exists however.
Thanks.
