Thread: Internet File Management Tool

    Internet File Management Tool

I wonder if anyone here could advise on a Windows based piece of software that allows easier file tranfser between us and customers, files can possibly reach 500mb

We have had Windows FTP working for a while but it has got to a point where it is becoming a little hard to manage with 30+ users and 30+ folders along with tonnes of security settings.

    Hope someone can help.

    Thx,
    ManC

FTP would be the "normal" answer to this

However you can to file-transfers with things like PCAnywhere - depends on if you want the clients to be shelling out £75 for software to basically do FTP ...

If you're having issues hosting your own FTP server, i'd recommend getting a Linux VPS from a managed VPS supplier for ~£30/month and you upload/download to/from that, and has a control panel for clients to do the same - and it all just works

Cheers for the advise, a managed solution is not what we want as we are always providing beta versions of our inbuilt software so we need to have complete access for all user on the network, some of the beta versions are huge and can get into the 500mb region and uploading this amount is not an option either.

If its going to "leave" your building at some point then its going to get "uploaded"
At presenet if 3 people d/load it you are uploading it 3 times

Moving to a managed vps ofr ftp cuts that to 1 upload as you release/make available a new version

Anyway back to your question - FTP is the correct solution, and all any equivalnet (carbon copy, pcanywhere, etc) are going to provide is the same functionality for a single-user-a-time.

Not sure if it is suitable but take a look at www.foldershare.com

Allows you to specify a folder on your computer that people can download from or sync with. Basically works as a P2P client with simple web interface.
