Frontpage 2003 and web hosting HELP?
Hi
This is my first time at developing a web site using Frontpage 2003 (which is still ongoing) it's for small buisness mainly advertising it's services.
The bit that is getting me in a spin is the amount of web hosting companies and which one best suits my needs to host this windows Frontpage based web site.
Cost is not a big issue but every little helps.
Quality of service is.
My domain name I can purchase from anywhere?
I would be greatful for any help or tips or recommendations?
P.S hope this is the right forum for posting this.

There are quite a few hosts that post on here that can happily support Frontpage Extensions (we're not one of them as we don't do shared hosting)... perhaps try 4dhosting, AGUK, Titan (i'm sure there are quite a few others here, but it's late and i can't think of any). When you do pick a host, make sure they know how to secure their servers properly... a huge amount of windows hosts don't even bother which in some circumstances means that their other clients on the same server can view any file within your webspace, which isn't particularly desirable to say the least.
Oh and yes, you can purchase a domain from anywhere; whatever you decide to do though, scrutinise the domain registrars contracts and look for domain release penalties etc. If you go to a reputable host then chances are it will be less hassle to get your domain through them, but as above, check the contract carefully.

Hi ya ebbo,
I use a business account with http://www.session9.co.uk/ that supports frontpage 2003. They have really fast servers, unlike many other provider I have been with. Also ive just seen they offer a 30 day money back, that great for testing them out. I think all there accounts have frontpage support. Its a basic thing these days. Give them a try, I did and found they where great. I hope this helps.

You might want to let them know about "The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000" as their address should be shown on the website.

OK thanks everyone for a quick response
I will look into all your suggestions
I have also been looking at other forums and what others recommend, it seems for web building there is only 1 software thats far in advance of others (Dreamweaver MX) what are your thoughts on this?
I only wish hosting sites were that easy.
Thanks again to all

Dreamweaver is a great tool and unlike FrontPage you won't need server extensions to support its server-side features. If you build your site with DW, you can easily move hosts without worrying much about compatibility.
Hosting is not that difficult and as a webmaster you should always be ready to move your site. When I was in web design, I had to move several times and therefore mastered "website roaming". I soon learned my lessons and after that I never fell into the 'cheap hosting trap'.
I support what others said about specific contracts/terms. Once you have a small list of hosts (up to 5), ask them specifically about their domain transfer conditions and money back guarantee.

I still can't see it ... might want to call them again, and ebbo asked for Windows hosting anyway which your "host" doesn't seem to offer.
Ebbo, FrontPage does have its fans but dreamweaver is considered by most to be the best. Many hosts (Linux/UNIX and Windows) offer FrontPage extensions, so you may not have any major problems should you choose to move hosting provider, but the extensions are fairly old and basic now and you can get many powerful PHP/CGI scripts on the net for free which are better than the extensions scripts, although a little harder to use until you get used to them.
Off topic, it will be interesting to see what Adobe come up with now they've acquired Macromedia (and dreamweaver) ... merging Adobe GoLive with Macromedia Dreamweaver is sure to create a very cool product, in fact merging most of Adobe and Macromedia's products could be fantastic for designers.
