It appears to have been a question on several companies minds over the last few months, with Office live taking such a successful US test with several thousands of people opting in to try the beta version it really does begin to raise questions about how much the new office live will damage other hosting companies.
This is where things get slightly tricky, people more often than not are turning to linux / unix systems for their web servers & web hosting this being the case, Microsoft aren’t really going to threaten the majority of hosts out there who offer linux & unix services.
However, what about those company’s who offer windows services only?? What lies ahead for those companies and will they be forced over to linux & unix servers in order to stay alive? In reality, Microsoft will see a increased rise in domain registrations costing them thousands each month, this has already been proven with the beta trials of the service, then there is the situation with support.. who is going to man their support desks which will cover all those thousands of customers that will sign up to their product? Microsoft simply cannot provide the support that most users will be looking for.
At any rate I would love to hear your views on this newest venture from Microsoft, I have heard a lot of discussion on this topic so please feel free.
Cheers
