We have made a pretty amazing deal with one of the top5 CDN's on the market: Edgecast!

They power many verticals, but I would say media and entertainment is probably the strongest, mostly because they are funded by Walt Disney's venture capital company, Steamboat Ventures.

So Disney, IMAX, Sony, EMI, Paramount Pictures, and Lionsgate Films are just a few of the media companies that use EdgeCast. Edgecast are headquartered in Hollywood, so that has made it an easy vertical for them to navigate into as well.

But Edgecast also have a huge presence in the Web 2.0 space, as they power sites like LinkedIn, Mashable, Wordpress, and Mahalo.

They also have a lot of penetration into the traditional Enterprise space as well, with clients such as Kellogg's, Verisign, and Epson to name a few.

They have over 700 customers today, so the customers are vast and their use of EdgeCast varies across all platforms and types of services. Some of the large resellers include Deutsche Telekom, GlobalCrossing, Navisite, The Platform, The Planet, etc - and now UK2Group....

Edgecast has the coolest admin and reporting setup I've seen in the industry, and their ability to handle small files is top of the class. 16 pops spread out over US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

The deal we have with them is amazing, and enables us to go to market with a flat £0.035/gb price incl. everything needed.

No setup fee's, no cost for origin pull storage, no extra cost for streaming, connections or anything else. Minimum purchase is £35 which would give you one terabyte. There are no contracts, monthly renewals or setup fee's or any other small prints really.
You simply buy 1TB, and you are free to use that in one hour or one year...and if you need more, you buy another TB.

Hahahaha... Was actually already decided on Edgecast and ready to sign up for a new project.

Just wondering does it go through yourselves in terms of billing etc.. How does the relationship work?

For anyone wondering, the UK2 price is well under what I've been quoted. Would save us around £15k/year compared to original quote.

Now where is the catch?

What about the setup and management? I've already been through the edgecast control panel etc... Is that going to be handled by yourselves?

It better be lower - with the commits we've made with Edgecast I would expect us to be able to beat any price out there...

You would get access to a UK2Group branded version of the edgecast panel.

This may come in handy for one of our clients.

Working well for us so far - just waiting for some propagation and then Codebase will be using CDN for its assets.

Sadly, we've had to exclude IE users from using CDN resources because IE throws a warning when it loads assets from a non-secure location on a secure site. I know we could SSL our CDN resources with this, but I'd be expensive to add SSL to assets0.codebasehq.com thru assets3.codebasehq.com.

A wildcard cert may be a bit much for those, but single cheapo certs shouldn't cost too much for each of them - maybe around £30 for all 4? Not saying you should - just a suggestion

We already have wildcard certs for the domain (paid Codebase accounts all use SSL at myaccount.codebasehq.com already) but UK2/Edgecast charge something like $100/month for the privilege.

Ah - I see !

yeah, we just pass on that cost from Edgecast. We've managed to negotiate it down quite a bit too, but their SSL setup is still annoyingly expensive.
