If you want to wait for service packs and lose out on customers that are demanding to use the new OS now then thats your loss.

Ah ok. I guess it depends on whether or not you really want to get to know the OS... if you support Windows Servers then it's likely that you really do need to get to know it inside out.

I'll be setting one up to play with and bench mark and so forth but I was asking if anyone here was planning on putting it in production any time soon mark

At $dayjob, we are going to upgrade our main servers in the office that run a lot of virtualized stuff, for our internal systems. We have no plans to upgrade / install any new systems for customers with 2008 yet tho!
I do hope the virtualization of linux is improved in 2008, I'm tired of rebooting my development VMs every day or so, I'd prob use them a lot more if it wasn't for this issue!

Sounds like you're using the wrong Virtualisation Technology
We have VPS clients with uptime in the 120+ days range.
