Well with 2000 versus XP, XP won every time as it ran faster on comparative hardware, however I expect this to be the opposite with Vista, so I suspect we'll see plenty of XP for a while yet.

Of course my bull-bar is safe, it sits so high the old people and the children go underneath.

Microsoft will most likely try to phase XP out, but it's definately going to take some time. Personally I'm glad for XP, so don't think I'll be purchasing Vista anytime soon

They Can't just "phase it out".

as per the EULA & Microsoft's company ethos (to keep its client base happy and avoid industrial suicide), Microsoft have a scheme (complete with fancy images I should add) for software (irrelevant of type), decomission and phase out times. This is inclusive of technical support, updates and patches.

For example, Windows 98 was finally EOL'd (End Of Lined) last year. So XP has a while to go yet

I am aware of that, but none the less they will still try to phase it out the market by heavily marketing Vista etc.
I didn't mean it as totally removing support and updates.

Not wanting to sound rude, but after a company has spent $xxx million developing a new product, surely your stating the obvious

Of course i was just trying to make a point, that i was aware that they had cetain obligations to XP, and you most likely misunderstood my first post about phasing XP out.

Vista will be spoken of and more people will move away from XP. However everything is running great with XP at my end so I am content as of now. I would rather someone else do the testing with regards to vista

I still run Win2k where possible, only place I run xp is where I need to use newer software that isn't supported.

IMO opinion there is enough of juice left in Windows XP to be in the market and homes for atleast another 10 years. One will be shock to read but that is a fact that there are still 21 million Windows 95 users out there and about 58 million Windows 98 users according to IDC software research. Now The WIN XP users are to be assumed to be atleast thrice those figures as it is spread across 80 countries around the globe. So I think there is still a lot more juice in Win XP.

I think you will find XP around for a while yet. If Windoze still has bugs even now, how long do you think this Vista (i am sure Vista means BETA in some countries) will take to fix or be workable??

How long will Vista take to fix?
    Fix what, exactly?

I would say in afew years time Microsoft will end updates. like they have done with 98

Its all to do with money to get you to upgrade.
